Lecture by Dr.Sreeram Jaganathan on family values to students of Chaitanya Techno School, Mandaveli

With the Principal, while giving the talk

As a part of their Smart living program, The Chaitanya Techno School, Mandaveli had invited me to give a lecture to their 9th and 8th standard students on the topic – family values on the 7th of March 2019.

felicitation by the Principal

The Principal, Smt Aparna, has been taking many such initiatives to inculcate moral values in her school children. My students Veeraraghavan and Sudarshan are working as Sanskrit teachers in the school and that’s how I was known to the Principal and this opportunity came by. It was very refreshing for me to interact with those young minds. There were two half an hour sessions on the same topic – one each for 9th and 8th students. The former was recorded and it is shared as below.

Moral stories for kids – vishvasam

Story telling session – sharing of moral values

Adiyen periodically narrates stories to children during stotrapatha classes to instill a sense of morality and knowledge of sampradaya in them. This session is on the concept of faith or vishvasa using modern analogies and in a manner kids can understand and ultimately ending up the session with a note on vishvasa in Emberuman.

Moral stories for kids – the story of Dadhichi Maharishi

  • As a part of teaching santhai of stotras to kids in an interesting manner Adiyen sometimes encourages them to narrate stories that are related to the stotras themselves. The below story about Dadichi finds an indirect mention in the 14th verse of Shodashayudha stotram where in Swami Desika describes the vajra ayudha of Sudarshana which is different from that of Indra’s vajra ayudha made from the spine of Dadichi.

आयुधानामहं वज्रम् इत्यगीयत यः स वः ।

अव्याद्धेतीशवज्रोsसौ अदधीच्यस्थिसम्भवः ।।

The story was first narrated by Chi.Amrit Narayan of 2nd standard. The link to his version is

Moral story for kids – गतानुगतिको लोकः

This story is about the attitude of people in general to simply follow what others do without questioning the reason. Because of this attitude of people a beggar loses his copper vessel full of coins on the banks of Ganges. The hyperlinked audio describes his plight in a humorous manner. There is a verse in Sanskrit which summarises the crux of the story – गतानुगतिको लोकः न लोकः पारमार्थिकः । गङ्गासैकतलिङ्गेन नष्टं मे ताम्रभाजनम् ।।
